I'm not sure if delegating account verification to Mastodon employees is a good idea at all.

The "Mastodon is the network name" synecdoche is ok as a conversational shortcut, but converting a specific company behind a specific software package as the centralized source of user "trueness" in a distributed network is dangerous.
