¿A leer/jugar?
@Zagormaikel Hostiaaaa... ¡Ovni 54-40!
Qué recuerdos me acabas de traer.
@Zagormaikel Que recuerdos.
8-)
Voy a releer/rejugar alguno.
@IoannesEnsis ¡Muy buena colección! Y con la Mansión infernal, nada menos :)

"Paul Dirac's remarks on God and religion (1927)
If we are honest — and scientists have to be — we must admit that religion is a jumble of false assertions, with no basis in reality. The very idea of God is a product of the human imagination. It is quite understandable why primitive people, who were so much more exposed to the overpowering forces of nature than we are today, should have personified these forces in fear and trembling. But nowadays, when we . . . "
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon This is a wonderful show exploring Dirac's life and incredible work: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000fw0p
@blag Great, thanks. I've bookmarked for later. I've listened to In Our Time on multiple occasions. Good show.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon My thoughts exactly.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon But of course…
MYSTERY PERSON QUIZ FOR 2024.06.17
Do you know who this person is?
Give your answer or make your best guess below. (No reverse image search or peeking at other responses.)
His name will be revealed tomorrow.
Please boost for more responses.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Is that “what’s his nuts” from Star Trek?
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon holy crap is that george takei?
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Guessing George Takei, specifically from the Japanese-American detention camps, after the WW2 attack on Pearl Harbor and ensuing Ni'ihau incident. Possibly taken from "They Called Us Enemy", his book on the subject?
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon
Is it George? As he's on Mastodon, there is one way to find out!
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon George Takei
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Is that George Takei, maybe?
Yesterday’s Mystery Person was George Takei.
From Wikipedia: George Takei is an American actor, author and activist known for his role as Hikaru Sulu, helmsman of the USS Enterprise in the Star Trek franchise. Takei was born to Japanese-American parents, with whom he lived in U.S.-run internment camps during World War II. He began pursuing acting in college, which led in 1965 to the role of Sulu, to which he returned periodically into the 1990s.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Oh nice. @georgetakei You have been the mystery person 😃
Yes, you read that right. While the overall numbers might suggest growth, a deeper look reveals a worrying trend: the monthly active users on the Fediverse have plummeted to half of what they once were. Even the big profiles are feeling the pinch with dwindling interactions. Could it be that the Fediverse honeymoon is over?
Meanwhile, Twitter/X is seeing a resurgence. More and more users are flocking back, reigniting the platform with a surge of interactions. Is this the beginning of the end for the Fediverse, or just a bump in the road?
Let’s hear your thoughts!

@gyptazy In my opinion, there have been several issues. I've noticed that many small instances have disappeared (Pleroma's decline is greater than Mastodon's), and users have shifted their focus to other instances. Many have been drawn to self-hosting, although it might not always be straightforward for non-tech-savvy individuals.
Additionally, I believe there's another issue: people are accustomed to algorithms. Some posted for a few days but, accustomed to other social networks, they couldn't replicate the same 'circle.' It takes years to build one's own 'world' on a social network, and some have opted to revert back in the absence of other groundbreaking news about Elon. 😆
MASTODON MIXTAPE
Hey Mastodonians, it’s time to create another old-fashioned community mixtape — just like we used to do in the olden days.
The 6th theme is going to be your favorite but underappreciated classical pieces. No Beethoven’s 5th or Pachelbel's Canon in D, please.
Don’t forget to check out the other contributions.
Be sure to ad #MastodonMixtape to your responses.

I love this idea! It's a challenge for me because I have so many favorite "forgotten" pieces (and composers) in my collection... But anyway, here's one.
Antonio Rosetti: Symphony in G min. Orchestra: Concerto Köln
@stylinstainless Great. Will listen as soon as I can. Bookmarked just in case.
@stylinstainless I liked this and have added it to my playlist. Thanks.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon I'm honored. Let me know if you want any other obscurities. I was once the music director of a classical radio station, and I love sharing my knowledge.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon always tough to know what’s less familiar to folks, but I’ll go with this. https://youtu.be/Crwzlon979I
@angel I almost posted Lutoslawski, myself.
@angel @The_Whore_of_Blahbylon
James Horner Pas de Deux
@cdunnpasadena @angel Just lovely. I've added it to my playlist.
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon Phillip Glass -The Light
@WryCooder Thanks. I'va added this to my playlist.
Which terminal emulator do use window manager users?
I'm almost fine with xterm except I can't use alt+backspace to delete a word, or ctrl+arrows to jump between words, this is really annoying
update: I'd like to thanks everyone for replied to this thread, there were MANY replies! I'm actually trying alacritty because it was simple to setup (I only changed the font), it works fine out of the box and it's fast
I did not really want to use terminator because I already use tmux and it feels a bit redundant.
@solene I use Terminator, I love the common sense screen splitting and it's extremely configurable.
@solene I usually stay with what is installed by default as it keeps me flexible on all systems;-)
@thinkberg I do the same but at some point I need an usable terminal emulator
@solene I guess I am lazy and don't learn all the goodness, even though I even implemented a terminal emulator once... javassh.org (the ssh part is outdated now).
@solene console + tmux
@solene xterm and alacrity.
But I think Ctrl-Right / Ctrl-Left work on my xterm. Maybe it’s a shell config? I use ksh ; with non-defaults 'set -o emacs' and LC_ALL=us_US.UTF8.
Great news, everybody! Google has approved the updated XScreenSaver Privacy Policy. I assume that this means that they find it 100% factual and endorse it entirely.
@jwz The last point is perfect
@jwz oh no you didn’t
@jwz
This should be an option for the text based screenblankers.
@jwz haha, that's the exact link the app lists for the privacy policy on the Play store. Sterling job.
Hey @Linux you might find this interesting
Vale a pena ler ela toda:
@jwz I laughed out loud so hard reading that page 💀
Why is everyone speeding?
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon took me a second to realize that isn’t an ass
@angel @The_Whore_of_Blahbylon my wife tells me the same thing <drum hit>
@The_Whore_of_Blahbylon this should be a country western song.

2024 is a mega election year and the EU elections are taking place this week. This is the 2nd largest election in the world - around 350 million people are eligible to vote.
Just like the elections in India and the USA this year - this one is very important for coexistence on our planet. Therefore, we want to use our reach and call on all those who are entitled to vote to make their voice heard.
We must not leave the EU to the far-right parties and must defend our democracies. Please vote.
PPD: Ratina sigue vivo.
First of all, this is clever and adorable. Secondly, if you spell out your name it writes a little story for you

OMFG. See now, this is the kind of manufacturer-specific threat intelligence it would have been helpful for the lazyweb to have provided me:
Me quito el sombrero ante tu actitud de rebeldía y camuflaje 😆
